Ronald Earl North, age 82, of Duluth, died Tuesday, January 29, 2019 at St. Luke’s Hospital with his family at his side from complications with cancer. He was born in Holyoke, MN on June 26, 1936 to Robert A. and Helen R. (Zinter) North. At age 12 they moved to Superior, WI. Ron was a graduate of Superior Central. Ron married Esther M. Sandahl on July 11, 1959 in Askov, MN. Ron proudly served in the U.S. Army. Ron started his marine career working on the Great Lakes ore boats. Forty-two years of his working career was spent at Zenith Dredge, retiring from Marine Tech, LLC. Ron was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church, the Elks 133, the Duluth Heights Turtle Patrol Snowmobile Club and Harbor Club. He loved the outdoors, and especially deer hunting at the “Holyoke Hilton”. Ron could fix anything, and he especially enjoyed working in his garage making beautiful wood pieces, from bird houses to furniture. One of Ron’s greatest joy were his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Bobby and his nieces Amy and Angela Field. Ron is survived by his wife of 58 ½ years, Esther; his three children Michael (Sharyn) of Maple Grove, MN, Mark (Lori) of Duluth and Ann (Rich) Reckinger of Duluth; his seven grandchildren: Erika (Randy), and Derrick, Kyle (Lynsey) and Jacob (Paige), Jessica (Colin), Morgan and Kelsey; his sisters: Eileen Condry, Kathy (Mike) Field and Pattie (Mike) Miller; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. VISITATION: Saturday, February 2, 2019 from 10 AM until the 11 AM memorial service at Holy Cross Lutheran Church. Military honors will be accorded by the Duluth Honor Guard.
