D Saksa

October 31, 1925 — May 23, 2020

D. Marilyn Saksa, 94, died on Saturday, May 23, 2020 at Solvay Hospice House.  She was born on October 31, 1925 to Leonard and Esther Young and grew up on her family’s farm in Amor, MN.  She graduated from the Battle Lake High School (MN) in 1944.  Marilyn continued her education at the Duluth State Teachers College, graduating in 1946.  She taught in the early elementary grades for 5 years in Park Rapids, Crosby and Esko.  Marilyn married George W. Saksa, an Esko Agricultural teacher, on June 9, 1951.  After the birth of their 3rd child, they moved & lived in Grand Rapids for 11 years.  A job promotion for George brought them to Duluth in 1968.  Prior to George’s retirement, they spent 2 ½ years in Dominica, West Indies while George worked with the Extension Service there.  Marilyn was active with the Concordia Quilters, County Extension breakfast group, and friends at Gramercy Cooperative.  She loved spending time at their Island Lake home.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband (George) and his siblings, brother (Dallas Young), sister-in-law (Phyllis Young).  Marilyn is survived by her children Mary Kay (Robert) Csanyi of Kernserville, NC, Ann Marie (Michael) Edwards of Duluth, MN, Eric (Tamson) Saksa of Duluth, MN, and Ellen Matarzynski (John) of Wake Forest, NC; grandchildren Christopher (Sarah) Csanyi, Marissa Csanyi, Nathan (Rachel) Edwards, Aaron Edwards, Maijaliisa (Jordan) Sauter, Anja and Anders Saksa, Alisa Matarzynski; great grandchildren Mackenzie and Sebastian Csanyi, Oliver Edwards, and John Sauter.  Also survived by sister-in-law Florence Miller, cousins, nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life and burial at Fort Snelling National Cemetery will be held at a later date to be announced.  Memorials to Concordia Lutheran Church (Duluth), CHUM, or Solvay Hospice House.
